For 15 years\, Rob has worked for Daikin Applied in systems\, product management and application engineering roles. Prior to this he worked with various HVAC products as a service technician for a family-owned service and installation contractor. The aim is to provide updates and information on recent research findings that can influence novel designs and unlock better performance of the built environment.\n \nSubtopics: \n\nFan Air Distribution and Duct Optimization\nIncreasing Radiant Panel System Performance\nUsing Fans to Mitigate Climate-Change-Induced Heat Strain and HVAC Performance Losses\nApplication of Ceiling Fans in a Post-Pandemic World\n\n \nPresenter: David Rose – Global Product Manager\, HVLS Fans and SpecLab \nDavid Rose joined Big Ass Fans in 2015 and currently serves as the Global Product Manager for all HVLS products and an array of design assistance software. Previously\, David led a multidisciplinary team of engineers dedicated to technical business development initiatives and application design support. David’s teams have developed novel programs\, tools\, experiments\, and design guidance across all of Big Ass Fans’ product lines that have been applied to countless high-profile projects worldwide. DESCRIPTION:Topic: Building Code Mechanical Plan Review Process\nThis presentation will be a brief overview of items that are highlighted from the 2009 and 2012 IECC during Mechanical Plan Review.  We will also discuss the most problematic issues seen on a regular basis during plan review or inspections as it relates to the energy codes.\n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nPresenter: Bob Carpenter | LFUCG Director of Building Inspection\n \nI spent 17 years in residential construction as a Superintendent.  Three for a custom builder and 14 with a large home builder. Started as an inspector for LFUCG in the Residential Section in 1999.  Obtained my Level III Certification in December 2000. I moved to the Commercial Section in 2003.  I was the Senior Commercial Facilitator.  I was the person tasked with guiding applicants through the permitting process.  I was also Building Inspection’s face to the Planning Commission. I was promoted to Manager of the Mechanical Section in 2013.  Mechanical plan review was a major portion of my responsibilities. \nI have been a member of the Code Administrators Association of Kentucky (CAAK) since 1999. \nA board member since 2011. \nSecretary/Treasurer 2017-2018 \nVice President 2018-2021 \nPresident 2021-2023 \nCurrently Past President \nI am currently a board member of ICC Region V which includes the states of Kentucky\, Indiana\, Ohio and Michigan. \nI am currently the Director of Building Inspection for LFUCG since September.

DESCRIPTION:Topic: ASHRAE Standard 62.1 – Where have we been\, where are we now and where are we going?\nExplanation of the evolution of Standard 62.1 including the newest modifications to ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022. SSPC 62.1 had made major modifications to the standard over the last couple revision cycles. These include a new Natural Ventilation Rate Procedure\, a new Indoor Air Quality Procedure and changes to the Ventilation Rate Procedure that will have major impact on the way the standard will be applied. Other changes include requirements associated with building humidity. \n \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nPresenter: Brian Hafendorfer\, PE | Gray AE\n \nBrian Hafendorfer is a licensed professional engineer with over 20 years of experience in commercial air conditioning\, industrial refrigeration\, and indoor air quality. Having spent time in the commercial HVAC manufacturing world\, as well as the design-build construction industry\, Brian has a well-rounded background in the design\, development\, manufacturing and application of HVAC systems and equipment as well as the hygienic design of Food & Beverage industrial manufacturing facilities. He has a passion for sustainability and is actively engaged in creating innovative solutions for customers that exceed their expectations. \nAs a Director of A/E Services\, Brian leads a design studio by partnering with design managers and Revit technicians to develop\, implement\, and execute the design and construction administration phases of design-build projects. He facilitates the preparation of design proposal documents\, leads the development of cost-effective solutions for major proposal offerings by partnering with engineering and architecture resources\, provides accountability for design schedules and project budgets\, and coordinates with project management and site management teams on the execution of projects throughout their life cycle. \nBrian is an active member of ASHRAE having received the 2018 ASHRAE Chapter Service Award\, the 2019 ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award and the 2021 Regional Award of Merit. He has served on multiple ASHRAE committees including SSPC 62.1 – Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality as voting member and subcommittee chair\, past chair of TC 2.9 Ultraviolet Air and Surface Treatment\, and as a voting member of TC 2.3 – Gaseous Air Contaminants and Gas Contaminant Removal Equipment and TRG4.IAQP – Indoor Air Quality Procedure Development. Brian is a former treasurer for Region VII and served as the advisory panel chair for ISO TC 142 Working Group 2 – UVC technology. Within the Bluegrass Chapter\, he held various chapter chair and officer positions\, ultimately progressing to Chapter President. \nBrian has authored numerous publications and presented on various topics including sustainability\, indoor air quality\, coil design and application\, advanced air handling systems\, humidity control\, ASHRAE standards\, and air cleaning and filtration. \n

The audience competes to see who can match common building decarbonization planning practices and improvement measures with the appropriate definitions and rank them in order of highest relative importance. The building decarbonization measures and practices cover a range of topics including project planning and delivery; building systems and equipment; building operations; and renewable energy.  The session ends with a discussion of priorities for addressing building industry education and training gaps.\n \nPresenter: Donald Colliver\, Ph.D.\, P.E. | Professor University of Kentucky \n \nDonald “Don” Colliver has been involved in the energy usage and efficiency of buildings for over 40 years. He is Professor in the Biosystems Engineering Department and a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. \nDon was the ASHRAE Society President in 2002-2003 and was chosen to be the initial Co-Chair of the ASHRAE Task Force for Building Decarbonization (TFBD). He currently serves as its Vice Chair. He will be leading an interactive game developed by the TFBD that serves an introduction to strategies to decarbonize buildings. \nDon has lectured in 20 countries with his teaching emphasis in solar PV systems design; indoor environmental control; industrial energy auditing; building energy modeling and analysis; decarbonization; and sustainable design. \nHe was awarded a doctorate from Purdue University; and is a hiker\, viticulturist\, and a retired soccer referee.

Information will be presented related to the impact of climate change; overall sources of CO2eq; the goals of decarbonization from the building sector; and an introduction in to why decarbonization of buildings is important. \n \nPresenter: Donald Colliver\, Ph.D.\, P.E.\, F-ASHRAE \nDonald “Don” Colliver has been involved in the energy usage and efficiency of buildings for over 40 years. He is Professor in the Biosystems Engineering Department\, and formerly Director of Graduate Studies in the BAE Department and Director of the Kentucky Industrial Assessment Center at the University of Kentucky. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. \nProfessionally Don has conducted and managed extensive research in energy usage in buildings and industrial facilities\, solar energy\, air infiltration and ventilation\, building codes\, and the analysis of climatological data for determination of design weather conditions. His team developed the first dehumidification design weather data that was published in the 1997 ASHRAE Handbook – Fundamentals. \nDon has lectured in 20 countries with his teaching emphasis in solar PV systems design; indoor environmental control; industrial energy auditing; building energy modeling and analysis; decarbonization; and sustainable design. \nHe was the ASHRAE Society President in 2002-2003. As a result of his initiatives and leadership\, ASHRAE launched the Advanced Energy Design Guides – a series of publications that provide guidance on designing and constructing buildings that lead toward net-zero-energy buildings. He served as the leader of this project for ten years during which time ten books were produced which now have over 700\,000 copies distributed. \nPrior to his service as ASHRAE President he served as Society President-Elect\, Treasurer\, Vice President\, Director-at-Large\, and Chair of Technology Council\, Education Council and the Standards Committee. He has subsequently served as Chair of the ASHRAE Honors and Awards Committee\, the National Engineers Week\, and Vice Chair of the ASHRAE Foundation. He is an ASHRAE Fellow and recipient of the Andrew T. Boggs Service Award. \nHe served as Director of the KY Industrial Assessment Center from 2014-2021 and participated in over 80 energy assessments in industrial facilities that have resulted in implemented recommendations that save on average $110\,000 per year per plant. In November 2019 he designed and installed a ground-mounted 10.2kW solar photovoltaic system for his house which has resulted in a maximum monthly electric bill of $19 since then. \nDon was chosen to be the initial Co-Chair of the ASHRAE Task Force for Building Decarbonization and currently serves as Vice Chair. \nHe was awarded a doctorate from Purdue University; and is a hiker\, viticulturist\, and a retired soccer referee. He has been an active member of the Central Baptist Church in Lexington Kentucky for over 40 years where he has served as Deacon and Moderator. His love and pride are his wife\, two sons and daughter-in-laws\, and five grandchildren.

DESCRIPTION:Topic: Energy Efficient Solutions for Commercial Kitchen Ventilation \nSummary: Restaurants are among the buildings with the highest energy intensity in commercial sector. They contribute over 500 trillion Btu to the U.S. annual energy consumption. This presentation will give practical recommendations how to reduce energy consumption of a foodservice facility by up to 50% and improve its indoor environmental quality for better employees’ and customers’ satisfaction. This presentation will describe new designs as well as recommendations how to improve efficiency of existing commercial kitchens. It will also cover requirements of the latest edition of ASHRAE 90.1 Standard in regards to efficient ventilation design of commercial kitchens. Presentation will be useful for owners\, operators\, energy and design professionals involved in design\, construction and operation of foodservice facilities. \nPresenter: Dr. Andrey Livchak has over 30 years of international experience in the HVAC industry. He graduated from Moscow Civil Engineering University in 1983 with honors and M.Sc. degree. In 1989 he received Ph.D. in engineering from the same university. His expertise covers several areas including air distribution\, heat recovery\, cooling\, heating systems\, acoustics and commercial kitchen ventilation. Dr. Livchak started his engineering career in 1983 in Moscow working at the government research laboratory. He joined Halton in 1989 working first in its European division and in 1998 moved to the U.S. to manage Halton R&D center. In his current position as the Director of Global R&D for the Foodservice division\, Dr. Livchak is responsible for planning and coordinating research and development of five Halton Research Centers in America\, Europe and Asia. Dr. Livchak is an active AHRAE member\, he works on TC 5.3 (Air Distribution) and SPC-200 Method of Testing Chilled Beams committees\, has over 50 publications including more than 20 patents.

He is a 7-year ASHRAE member and a member of the Atlanta chapter. Blackmore & Glunt has three regional offices and represents dozens of manufacturers of mechanical equipment. Products represented include pumps\, boilers\, heat exchangers\, water heaters\, valves\, and accessories for various system applications. He provides overall support to design engineers\, installing contractors\, product distributors\, service providers and owners\, before\, during and after an installation. \nAdam grew up in Southwestern Ohio where he still resides. He attended the University of Dayton and graduated with a BSEE in 1988. Before and after graduation he worked for the start-up engineering firm Mission Research. Adam and his wife have 6 children and have resided in Mason\, OH for 18 years.

This presentation reviews a wide spectrum of technologies in the marketplace\, highlighting how they work\, how they are best applied\, and the consequences of their use in practical terms of infection risk reduction\, occupant limitations\, and cost/energy consumption. \nSpeaker: \nChristian Taber\, Principal Engineer\, Big Ass Fans \nSpeaker Bio: \nChristian Taber is a principal engineer at Big Ass Fans\, working on building codes/standards and fan test standards that impact the fan industry. Taber is an ASHRAE certified High-Performance Building Design Professional\, a Certified Energy Manager\, and a committee member of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and ASHRAE GPC37. He is also a member of the review committees for AMCA 230\, 214\, 211\, 208\, and 11. He holds an M.S. in mechanical engineering and B.S. in chemical engineering from Iowa State University\, and an M.S. in biosystems engineering from the University of Kentucky.
